The only prerequisite for this class is enthusiasm! However, it will
not hurt to come equipped with some basic computer skills. Last year,
scholars detected the dark matter halo of our Galaxy, by analyzing data
such as those in this Excel spreadsheet, to map the Galaxy's rotation.

Can you use Excel's built-in help, or an online tutorial, to learn how
to average the numbers between rows 5 and 36, in each of columns G through
BE, and histogram the results? That's the first step in getting one point
on the plot shown here, and a good introduction to using spreadsheet data.
