Research Statement:
We are studying the detailed chemical abundances of Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) globular clusters in order to refine a new method to determine detailed chemical abundances of unresolved extragalactic clusters from high resolution spectra of their integrated light. We will also apply this method to obtain the first detailed chemical abundances for galaxies beyond the Milky Way and LMC.These results will help us to constrain element synthesis in Type I and Type II supernovae, as well as the chemical enrichment history of the LMC.
During the course of this work we also investigate other information that can be obtained about the underlying unresolved stellar population from high resolution integrated light spectra. In particular, we have developed a way to constrain horizontal branch morphology using Balmer lines in conjunction with our abundance analysis.
